The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée De Mon Aïeul is also all Grenache but was raised all in demi-muids (I believe all used). Its more ruby/plum color is followed by an incredible bouquet of mulled red and black fruits, sweet Provençal herbs, spice box, and graphite. It's slightly broader and more expansive than the Deux Freres and has a sexy, full-bodied mouthfeel, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. This reminds me a little of the 2006, and while it's already brilliant, I have no doubt it will evolve for 15-20 years in cold cellars.
Lush, fresh and creamy, the fruit is ripe, vibrant, harmonious and long, with good purity and a peppery edge to the kirsch and black raspberries on the palate and in the finish. There is length, freshness and complexity found here. The wine is made with 100% old vine Grenache. Drink from 2024-2036.
The 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Mon Aïeul has an edge over the 2021 and 2019. Enticing aromas of raspberry liqueur, ripe forest strawberry, red and black plum, black olive tapenade, licorice, abundant exotic spices ant a splash of mint waft from the glass. Full-bodied and rich, ripe tannins envelop the palate loaded with a juicy core of ripe red and black fruits that are kept in check by lively acidity. Only 6,000 bottles produced.
