There is no doubting the potential of the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape l'Avenue, 100% Grenache, aged in older demi-muids (four or five years old). Attractive flashes of mint and licorice accent ripe black cherries on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is perfectly round and fleshy, with a silky, nearly endless finish. This is just lovely Grenache, captured at peak ripeness, without overt surmaturité. 95-97
The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape L'Avenue (100% Grenache) is similarly hued and boasts a similarly seamless, elegant, incredibly layered profile. Black cherries, redcurrants, chalky minerality, and ground pepper are just some of its nuances, and it's full-bodied, with a layered, seamless mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish.
Bold and bright, with expressive kirsch and raspberry pâte de fruit notes driving along, inlaid liberally with dried anise, singed apple wood and licorice root. Shows a subtle floral echo through the finish. A well-built wine. Best from 2024 through 2038. 950 cases made, 100 cases imported.
