Château Latour à Pomerol is known for producing generous, concentrated wines that strike a perfect balance between elegance and power.
The vineyard is characterised by the diversity of its soils, which brings complexity and harmony to the wine: gravel and clay for a marvellous parcel next to the church of Pomerol; loam surrounding the château.
Lots of floral notes with tobacco, green olives and hints of brown sugar. Black cherries, too. It’s full and juicy. Really solid this year. It has a historical sensibility to it. 100% merlot. 94-95
The 2020 Château Latour A Pomerol showed brilliantly, with a medium to full-bodied, concentrated, yet incredibly elegant profile that's already impossible to resist. Black cherries, spicy oak, tobacco, camphor, and hints of graphite all define the aromatics, and this balanced, ethereal, complex Pomerol is going to shine for at least two decades. It's another stunning wine from the team at Moueix.
Rich, deep, dark, concentrated and packed with layers of black and red plums, chocolate, licorice, truffle and tobacco leaf in the nose, on the palate, this is where the action really takes place with its silky, full, vibrant mouth-feel. The wine finishes with layers of chocolate covered black cherries and plums drizzled with chocolate and a touch of espresso that comes in at the end. This is going to age and evolve for decades. Drink from 2025-2050.
In the 2019 vintage, this estate was a highlight of the Mouiex portfolio, and the 2020 Latour à Pomerol is a terrific follow-up. Bursting with aromas of cherries, dark berries, licorice, black truffle and petroleum jelly, it's medium to full-bodied, with a broad attack that segues into a rich core of fruit that's framed by sweet, powdery tannins.
Measured and silky on the attack, this focuses on rich black fruits, bursting with flavour. The tannins quickly begin to build up through the palate, these are thick skins that give flavour, colour and tannin, but they have also teased out nuance and complexity. As you sit with this wine, the raspberry leaf and tobacco aromatics begin to curl out of the glass, as does the impressive tension that keeps the muscular texture rippling with juice. Harvest September 14 to 22. Good stuff.”
