Over the past few months, the wine has added structure and fleshed out following the initial April tastings. Pure sensations of wild, ripe and overripe cherries, boysenberry, plum, espresso and stone. Full bodied, sweet, concentrated, long and fresh, the wine moves from blackberries to plum and back again with spice, licorice and earth. 96-97
Decanter: 95 Points
Classic in style but racy and harmonious. Pure and expressive on the nose. Berry fruits with a hint of mint. Beautifully balanced on the palate and so, so long. Not the density of a 2005 or 2010 but perfect pitch.
Vinous: 95 Points
The 2012 Lafleur is high-toned on the nose with liquorice and blueberry scents, lavender oil and wild heather. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy, red berry fruit laced with brown spices, cracked black pepper, cedar and tobacco, almost dovetailing into a Médoc-like finish. Deep ruby to the rim, the 2012 Lafleur possesses beautiful kirsch, sweet raspberry fruit, ripe tannin, and a lushness and roundness. It is medium to full-bodied and complex, with an exceptional texture and purity – all hallmarks of this property. This wine should drink well for another 15 or more years.
