Decanter: 94 Points
A lucid ruby-purple hue in the glass. Like Benmar's flagship bottling 'Into the Fog' Pinot, this is shy on the nose at the pull of the cork and needs a good amount of air to open. Delicate cranberry and pomegranate fruit aromas and apple skin mingle with earth, sandalwood, and brown baking spices. Medium-bodied with a fantastic core of dark, juicy cherry fruit intermixes with cola and smoky clove. Very fine-grained tannins are almost powdery from upstart winemaker Greg Bybee. The wine is named after his children, Bennett and Marecca, and the image on the front label was taken by his wife, Jen. Grapes are sourced from Hirschy Vineyard and adjacent sites in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Pinot Noir clones Pommard, 777, 115, and Wadenswil were fully destemmed, then underwent a 72-hour cold soak, with pump overs and punch downs, pressed and settled for eight days before going to barrel. 10-month elevage, then barrel to barrel racking for additional 6 months of elevage—all neutral oak.
